The PastPerfect network upgrade allows all users to share a single dataset. Data files are attached so you have a front end and a back end. The front end is the PastPerfect program which contains the screens, queries, and reports. The back end is Foxpro database files which store the data you enter into the program. The back end databases are attached to the front end making a complete system.

Product Features

With the network option installed all PastPerfect users are looking at the same set of data and images. Changes made by one workstation are immediately seen by all users. Making a backup of your data files is much easier because you only need to save the back end database not the whole PastPerfect program.

PastPerfect is designed to run on peer-to-peer and client server networks. Peer-to-peer (P2P) refers to network communications that bypass servers and allow computers to directly communicate with each other. While administrators normally prefer that all information access be handled by servers for security and control reasons, some network administrators choose the P2P concept because it reduces the traffic load on busy centralized servers, making P2P a viable networking concept.

For PastPerfect to operate as a network program you will need:

The Network Upgrade software
A network operating system such as Windows ME/2000/XP Network Neighborhood, Windows NT or Novel NetWare
100 Mbps network throughput for best operation

WARNING: Wireless networks can be problematic due to lower transfer rates and frequent network interuptions. Please contact the support office before installing on your wireless network. Running PastPerfect on a wireless network is not recommended.
