by Ginger Gomez

PastPerfect updates may be downloaded from http://museumsoftware.com/softwareupdates.shtml. Instructions are available on each update's download page.

Version 5.0B3 - Released August 17, 2011.  This update includes a new Quick Find feature that allows you to open a catalog or contact record right from the Main Menu by entering the Object ID or Contact ID.  It also adds the ability to manually add records to a Catalog List by simply typing or scanning the Object ID number.

The new Inventory Manager will be an available add-on product for PastPerfect versions 5.0B3 and above.

Version 4.0E4 - Released December 10, 2010.  This update enables Version 4.0 users to easily track, create lists from and report on donations and dues payments made in 2011.

3: Tech Tip - Version 5's Recycle Bin
by Jessica Meulendyk

PastPerfect Version 5.0 uses the Recycle Bin to temporarily store records marked for deletion before they are permanently removed. After clicking the "Delete" button and moving away from a record, it will no longer appear within the original area of the program (Objects, Library, Contacts, etc). You can find the record in the Recycle Bin by going to "Utilities" on the Main Menu and selecting "Recycle Bin." Then choose the desired "File Type," and any records that have been marked for deletion in that area will be listed. To restore a deleted record to its original location, simply double click on it.

The Recycle Bin is emptied each time you reindex. Once a reindex is performed, the records marked for deletion are permanently removed from PastPerfect. If you would like to print or view a list of the records in the Recycle Bin before you reindex, click the "Print or View List of Records Marked for Deletion" button on the Reindex screen. We also recommend making a backup of the data to the hard drive before you reindex.

For more information about the Recycle Bin, please review the Utilities chapter (Chapter 25) in your PastPerfect 5.0 User's Guide. A PDF version of this chapter is also available at http://www.museumsoftware.com/v5ug/pdf/PP5-25.pdf.

4: Thinking of You after Hurricane Irene
by Adam Stepansky

When a devastating event occurs such as Hurricane Irene, it makes us think of all the things for which we are thankful. Having the latest PastPerfect backup offsite and secure is one less thing to worry about during a crisis. If you have not been making backups to CD, DVD, flash drive or other removable media, now is a great time start. For more information about making backups in PastPerfect, please visit our website Knowledge Base and search the word "backup."

We at PastPerfect Software are thankful for all the work you do preserving our culture and heritage and for being the best client base any company could dream of. Please keep safe and dry, both you and your data.
