3. Tip of the Month- Get a list of Consistent Members over a Period of Years in PastPerfect 4.0

Have you ever needed a mailing list of members that have consistently renewed their membership over a certain period of years? You can get a list like this in PastPerfect by setting up a User Defined List with a filter statement using the Dues___ field for each year.

Let's say, for example, that a list is needed of the members who have renewed their membership every year for the past 5 years (since 2000). You can create this list by following these steps:

1) Click on the "Lists & Labels" button on the main menu of PastPerfect
2) Click on the first blank line with 0 records under User Defined Lists so that it is highlighted in green
3) Click the "Create or Modify User Defined List" button
4) Type in a list name, for example, Consistent Members since 2000
5) Click your cursor into the "Enter Filter Statement for Adding Records" field
6) Type in this filter: Dues2000>0 and Dues2001>0 and Dues2002>0 and Dues2003>0 and Dues2004>0 and Dues2005>0
7) Click the "Add matching records to list now" button.
8) It will display a "Records on List = __" message. Click "Ok."
9) Click the "Exit" button

You now have a mailing list of your members that have renewed every year since 2000!

The key to this filter statement lies in the Dues____ fields. These fields hold the amount of dues that were paid each year by each member after 1996. If the amount paid is 0, then they did not pay dues that year; if the amount is greater than 0, then an amount was entered in as a dues payment, which would make them a member. You can change this filter statement to cover a different range of years, by adding or removing the Dues___>0 portions with the appropriate year to your filter statement.

If you have any problems creating the above list or have any questions, please contact our support office toll free, at 800-562-6080 or send an e-mail to support at support@museumsoftware.com.

4. Look Who's Using PastPerfect- **The Bead Museum & the Bead Society of Greater Washington**

The Bead Society of Greater Washington, in Washington, DC, established The Bead Museum in 1995 to interpret the significance and usage of beads in cultures over time, from ancient to contemporary. The bead, one of the oldest and most widely used personal artifacts, tells much of the person or culture using it. Beads have been used over time as amulets of protection, symbols of status and pieces of adornment. The Bead Museum interprets these beads through exhibits, tours, demonstrations and seminars, workshops, publications, children's programming, and more!

Currently, The Bead Museum has over 5,000 objects of beads or beadwork items in their collection. They also have a library completely dedicated to beads and the history surrounding them. The Bead Museum is using PastPerfect to catalog these items as well as the Digital Imaging upgrade to attach images to their catalog records. They hope to, in the near future, exhibit these items online using Virtual Exhibit.
